The comment that Ubuntu only supports 3-3.5 GB is true only to a point. If you use the Ubuntu "generic" kernal it will only support the 3-3.5 (that's actually 4 GB minus the OS footprint), but if you use the "server" kernal it will support 64 GB (with a limit of 4 GB/processor available at any given time). I don't know for sure, but I bet this is the same for Win XP (That is, XP Server Edition will do 64 GB) as the RAM options are in the x86 architecture which Linux and Windows share.Vancouveritehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13214820076125580043noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257774.post-7715578235578610202009-05-01T11:48:00.000+05:302009-05-01T11:48:00.000+05:30HAI BODY WINDOWS XP-32BIT OS's KERNAL only support...HAI BODY WINDOWS XP-32BIT OS's KERNAL only support 3.4 gb OF RAM. YOU INSTALL 4 GB OR INSTALL IT 8 GB TRY 64-BIT VERSION FOR IT SUPPORTS FROM 8GB/16GB FOR WINDOWS XP 64-BIT VERSION. BUT PROBLEM IS SO MANY APPLLICATION DO NOT WORK ON IT THAT APPLICATION SHOULD HAVE 64-BIT COMPABILITY. SO THINK AND THEN BUY THE 64-BIT VERSION.

PARESH SHIVDIKARUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16258759902108404178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257774.post-40515871995769382092008-03-05T15:40:00.000+05:302008-03-05T15:40:00.000+05:30Also, on 32bit OSes you can enable it to use more ...Also, on 32bit OSes you can enable it to use more RAM, there's more info here about the Windows 4GB limit...

http://www.brianmadden.com/content/article/The-4GB-Windows-Memory-Limit-What-does-it-really-mean-Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17902540052308703629noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257774.post-82699048338797200592008-03-05T15:37:00.000+05:302008-03-05T15:37:00.000+05:30Hi,It's nothing to do with Microsoft or anything, ...Hi,

It's nothing to do with Microsoft or anything, it's just that most 32 bit OSes support a max of only 4GB of RAM, and when you have 4GB installed, it would only show part of it like it does to you now (3.x GB). That's because the missing amount is used by the OS for some internal stuff ,which I cannot quite remember.

My suggestion is that to install a 64-bit OS like XP 64-bit or my favorite Vista 64-bit, and you dont have to worry about your processor since the Core 2 Duo has an architecture based on 64-bit. Even I have Vista Ultimate 64bit installed on my Core2Duo machine, and it shows all 4GB.

Also, just let me know what your motherboard/chipset is, because there are some motherboards that have a little problem when 4GB or more is installed, even though it supports 8GB. So just let me know and I could find out if it has the problem...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17902540052308703629noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-23257774.post-40727899275439556512008-02-21T07:55:00.000+05:302008-02-21T07:55:00.000+05:30I think it is same with any 32bit operating system...I think it is same with any 32bit operating system.
